Neighborhood Coffees
Neighborhood Coffees is a national award-winning initiative that brings neighbors
together to discuss the vitally important roles that adults play in helping today's
youth successfully negotiate some of the most difficult challenges of everyday life.
These discussions create opportunities for dialogue between parents and young people,
and create supportive relationships throughout neighborhoods in Bernards Township.
The Coffees are held in residents' homes. A trained facilitator from the community
leads the discussion along with high school students who participate as honored
guests. The young people are there not to provide the answers, but to serve as consultants
from their generation.
Neighborhood Coffees, first held in 1995, is an important community program that
has a positive impact throughout the town, and brings neighbors together in a joint
commitment to proactively support Bernards Township youth.
