Block Parties and Progressive Dinners
As Mr. Rogers so poignantly asked us for many years, “Who are the people in your
neighborhood?”
Do you know the people living on your street? How about right next door? Knowing
your neighbors is a wonderful thing. It is beneficial to the safety of our homes
and children that neighbors look out for one another. A caring neighborhood helps
to create a sense of community and well being for all.
Knowing your neighbors is important for both you and your children. Neighbors play
an important role in helping children develop, joining together to nurture competent,
caring, responsible children. In other words - to build Assets in our youth.
Block Parties and Progressive Dinners are two great ways to get to know your neighbors
because they provide opportunities for everyone to socialize.
BuildingYouth has created “information/how-to” packages on how to organize a Block
Party and Progressive Dinner. The packages provide basic guidelines, timeframes
and activities for these events which can be easily customized for your neighborhood!
