GiveBACK Program

GiveBACK (Bernards Acts of Community Kindness) is a BuildingYouth campaign to acknowledge acts of kindness within the community. We recognize Bernards Township individuals who build Assets through their actions and behavior (knowingly or unknowingly!).

Bernards Township is full of Asset builders and wants them to be recognized! If you witness and would like to acknowledge a Bernards Act of Community Kindness, please contact us at 908.204.3068 or assets@bernards.org.

GiveBACK Award Recipients

Al Burke, the first recipient of the GiveBACK award, was the inspiration for the GiveBACK program. His efforts inspired the BuildingYouth staff to begin a “random acts of kindness campaign” throughout the Bernards Township community, in hope of encouraging others to be caring neighbors.

Al received the award for returning a Schwinn boys bike that he found buried in the snow to it's rightful owner. The bike had been buried in a drift after a particularly heavy snowfall. Al took the time to borrow a shovel and dig it out of the snow.

Pingry student, Bard Ricciardi, had a goal to get computers into the hands of disadvantaged kids so they could become computer literate before facing the academic challenges of high school. Through Future Tech Kids, Bard achieved that goal by refurbishing and building computers and educational software to give to disadvantaged students in first through eighth grade who could not afford to buy them.

Arielle Wisotsky, a Ridge High School student, raised awareness and funds for Help Darfur Now, a program focused on helping the genocide victims in Darfur, Sudan. Arielle, along with some colleagues, established a web site, Help Darfur Now. Those interested in making a tax-deductible contribution can send a check to Help Darfur Now, Inc., P.O. Box 5062, Basking Ridge, NJ, 07920.

Liam Herron, a sixth grader at St. James School, worked with his classmates on the Red Panda Project. The project ensures the survival of the red panda and its habitat for future generations to study, experience and enjoy. The sixth graders helped to heighten Bernards Township residents' awareness about issues surrounding the survival of the red panda and helped to raise funds. Liam and his fellow students made a big difference in the lives of the pandas and the villagers in Nepal!
